Pride says, “My life matters because of my performance.” Humility says, “My life matters because of God’s love, design and purpose.”

When I say, “your life matters” it could sound like a self promoting scheme to help a man feel better about himself.  But it depends why “your life matters.”

If it matters because…

God knew you before the creation of the world,

God knit you together in your mother’s womb with a specific design,

God breathed life into your lungs at birth and made you alive for this time in history,

God sent His one and only Son to die on a cross to pay for all of your sins,

God filled  you with His Spirit to empower you with talents and gifts for sanctified use,

God invited you into his purpose of redeeming His Creation and building His church,

God promised to come back for you,

God is preparing a place for you in Heaven, where thieves don’t steal, moths don’t spoil and rust does not corrupt…

Then you know your life matters for the right reasons.  Your confidence is unshakable and eveything you do is of immeasurable worth.

When you lose yourself into God, you find yourself again but in the loving and transformed way He sees you.   It is not pride to feel that your life matters when you know it matters because of God’s work, not yours.
